Man United skipper Wayne Rooney backs under-fire boss Louis van Gaal and denies player unrest
Wayne Rooney insists Manchester United's players are united behind manager Louis van Gaal.
The
Dutchman has come under fire after a poor run of results that has seen
the Red Devils crash out of the Champions League and slip down to fifth
spot in the table.
Van Gaal's future at Old Trafford is in doubt, and the United chief stormed out of Wednesday's press conference after speculation over his position.
However, skipper Rooney insists his boss still has the full support of the dressing room.
Misfiring: Rooney has scored just two Premier League goals
He told Sky Sports:
“The last few weeks results haven't been great for us, and it's
frustrating for a player to deal with. We have to stay together together
and try and get the results we need.
"We are fighting for the manager to try and get results and turn things around."
Rooney has confirmed he has held talks with his teammates in a bid to arrest their slump.
The England goalgetter called a crisis summit after the club’s worst
run of results in 17 years left Van Gaal under mounting pressure.
"I
think as a group of players we know we can do better," he said in an
interview with Sky Sports News. "We regularly have meetings with myself
and the other senior players in the squad and with the manager as well.
"We're all working together and come up with the best solution to try and to help us win football matches."
Rooney has endured a difficult start to the season, having scored just two Premier League goals this term.

But he insists they have to deal with the flak as they bid to get their title charge back on track.
He
added: "It's not nice when you're getting criticised every week, every
game. It's tough for the players to deal with. We're proud people, we
play for Manchester United, it's hard to take and it's frustrating.
"The
way the last few weeks have gone, it's not the way we want it to go.
We're working hard to try and fix things and get them right."
