Kalashnikov-wielding 'robbers' shoot several people and take hostages in service station shootout with police in French town near Belgian border Several people were wounded and hostages taken in a shootout between police and two Kalashnikov-wielding 'robbers' in a French town close to the Belgian border. It is understood a bank manager and his family were being held hostage in Roubaix, which is about an hour west of Brussels, but French police said the trio were now 'safe'.  Read More>>

Teenage Islamist 'poster girl' who fled Austria to join ISIS 'is beaten to death by the terror group after trying to escape from Syria' - months after friend who went with her was killed Samra Kesinovic (left and centre), 17, who fled Austria in April 2014 along with her friend Sabina Selimovic (right), is believed to have been beaten to death by ISIS terrorists having tried to sneak out of Raqqa, Syria. Sabina is said to have died in December during a period of heavy fighting. Both girls appeared in propaganda videos for ISIS soon after they arrived in Syria. An Islamic preacher from Bosnia living in Vienna, Mirsad O., known by the Islamic name of 'Ebu Tejma', was allegedly responsible for the radicalisation of the two young girls. Authorities say he brainwashed them into joining the jihad. He denies this. Mirsad O. was arrested for his role in an alleged terrorist funding network based in Austria in November.  Read More>>

Paramount ruler of Tivland in Benue dies at 71 The paramount ruler of the Tiv tribe in Benue State who is also the Tor Tiv, Dr Alfred Akawe Torkula, has died. Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom, confirmed the death of the first class ruler to newsmen this morning. The late traditional ruler died of an undisclosed ailment at a private hospital in Benue state. He was 71 years old. May his soul rest in peace, Amen. Read More>>
