Hard times to hit Nigerian illegal immigrants in the UK From February 2016, Landlords in the UK will need to check the immigration status of all new tenants over 18 years old before they move into their properties or they could face a £3,000 fine. People who also sublet are included. Homeowners who take in lodgers must also check that they have a right to reside in the UK before allowing them to sublet, or they will also be fined. Devastation of Desmond: Army called in as floods wreak havoc across Cumbria and Scotland. David Cameron said Army officers had been mobilised to help those affected by the flooding, as water levels continued to rise today. Military personnel had to be brought in to help deal with severe weather in Carlisle as elderly people, children and pets were pulled from their homes. One elderly woman was carried from her flooded home in the city by an officer (bottom left), as a man climbed down ladders from the first floor of his property this morning with help from the Mountain Rescue (bottom right). Cars and houses were submerged in a street in Carlisle (top) as Storm Desmond brought severe disruption to areas of northern England. More than 1,000 people have been evacuated from houses in Cumbria and the Scottish borders and the Environment Agency has issued 186 flood warnings across Britain. Read More>>

Yahaya Bello is declared Kogi Governor-Elect INEC has declared APC candidate Alh. Yahaya Bello as the winner of the Kogi governorship poll. APC polled 247,752 votes to defeat PDP who came second with 204,877 votes. In the supplementary poll, APC polled 6885 votes to beat PDP which polled 5363 votes. Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi who is the Chief Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Emmanuel Kucha declared the results in Lokoja. He said, having fulfilled all legal requirements, Alh. Yahaya Bello is declared winner of the election and Kogi Governor-Elect. Faleke remains the running mate to Alh. Yahaya Bello.
