Guess what Tanzanians did on their Independence Day today? Instead of celebrating, they swept the whole country. Today if the country's 54th Independence day and the new president Dr John Pombe Magufuli told his people to use the day to clean up the environment and Tanzanians responded in their thousands. And the new president even joined hundreds of residents in the main city Dar es Salaam to take part in the public clean-up operation. He did his clean up duties at the famous Ferry fish market near the State House; the country's Vice President Samia Suluhu Hassan tackled the famous Oyster-bay beach, and the Prime Minister Majaliwa tackled Kariakoo!  More photos>>

Conductor kills man a week before his travel date to the US over N50 Babatunde Omoyeni, a web designer who planned to travel on the 10th of December to spend his Christmas and New Year holidays  in the United States of America, has been killed in Lagos over N50. After obtaining all travel documents, he boarded a bus on Saturday and gave the conductor N500, but the conductor told him he didn’t have N450 change, because the fare was N50. Oscar Pistorius studying law degree with a London university The former Paralympian who has officially been charged with the murder of his girlfriend on Appeal but granted bail is said to be studying for a law degree through a London university course. This was known after Oscar submitted an affidavit to court during his bail hearing on Tuesday morning that he required daily internet access to continue his studies. In his affidavit, he said; "I have enrolled at the London School of Economics for a B.Sc business with law degree. I study by way of correspondence and need daily access to the internet for this purpose." He also told the court that he had no income & had lost all his assets but said he was actively seeking employment.
