Nobel prize-winning author Wole Soyinka today revealed that he has fulfilled his pledge to throw away his US residency green card if Donald Trump won the presidential election. (Read  here ) "I have already done it, I have disengaged from the United States. I have done what I said I would do," Soyinka told AFP on the sidelines of an education conference at the University of Johannesburg. "I had a horror of what is to come with Trump... Members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria aka Shi'ites staged a protest in front of the National Assembly Abuja today. The Islamic members are demanding the immediate release of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky who has been in DSS detention since last year December when they had a clash with the Nigerian Army in Zaria, Kaduna state. Some other members of the religious body are also staging a protest in Yola, Adamawa state. Over 100 Nigerians have been laid off by Ericsson Nigeria, a local subsidiary of the global telecommunications solutions provider. A letter sent to the disengaged staff members states that the termination of their appointment takes effect from Sunday, December 4th. Among those affected are 55 full-time employees of the company. The company in the disengagement letters, said the positions of those affected have been declared redundant and that their redundancy benefits will be paid soon. Follow @cool_jist

Director of Policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Moses Tule, has said that the apex bank is addressing the current economic recession using wrong tools. Tule said this when he spoke at the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, CIBN, roundtable meeting organised on the current economic recession in Abuja on Tuesday November 29th. Only six of the 77 people on board survived when a chartered plane carrying Brazilian football team Chapecoense hit a mountain en route to the continental cup final in Colombia. All the bodies of the passengers and crew have been recovered and accounted for following the crash along with the aircraft's black boxes. The plane that crashed in Colombia’s Medellin killing 71 people on board including members of the Brazillian football team, Chapecoense, ran out of fuel moments before it crashed on Tuesday November 29th.
