The scientists are also working on other genetic engineering projects as well, wherein they will genetically – modify dogs and engineer them to develop human diseases like Parkinson’s and muscular dystrophy.The anatomy of dogs is same as humans so with the help of this project, scientists would be able to find out the basic causes of how do these diseases actually occur. In the year 1997, a strain of mice was produced by the genetic engineers wherein, the mice lacked the myostatin gene, resulting in their extra muscular appearance. It was called the “mighty mice or “knockout mice.” The first dog that was experimented with this genetic eccentricity was the “Whippet” (a breed of dog) in which the loss of the gene can occur naturally. The strongest dog in the world was the whippet named Wendy, because of her body-builder like appearance. Wendy and the other “bully whippets” are undoubtedly stronger than other dogs.
