Human trafficking beast forced men to have sex with each other for 20 hours a day
A human trafficker has been jailed for forcing men to have sex with other men for up to 20 hours a day.
But
although Andras Janos Vass is going behind bars for 11 years, the
victims of his sadistic enterprise say they will bear the mental scars
of their ordeal for the rest of their lives.
One of the ringleaders of a gang who trafficked young men into the
USA from Hungary, the 26-year-old was working with two other men,
prosecutors say, Gabor Acs and Viktor Berki, although they are still
awaiting trial.
Running a company called Never Sleep Inc, Vass
was involved in bringing in young male victims from Hungary, where most
lived in poverty, reports the Miami Herald .
In New York, the men, all in their 20s, lived in a one-bedroom apartment which housed up to eight, where they performed sex acts at any time of day , either with men or on webcams, according to the arrest warrant.
One
victim told the court in Miami-Dade, Florida, through a Hungarian
interpreter: “It’s really hard for me to socialise, to mingle with
people. I started drinking heavily to try and forget. I lost all my
friends."
Two Hungarian victims were picked up by Vass through GayRomeo.com while another victim was a male prostitute “living with gypsies” when he met Acs through Facebook.
It was back in 2012 when the three victims were flown to New York and what they believed was a legitimate business.
Homeland
Security Investigations agent Melissa Pavlikowski wrote in an arrest
warrant: "[The victims] believed they would only be in New York for a
few months to make tens of thousands of dollars before returning to
their homeland and their families."
Enslaved: The victims of Vass' trafficking ring had their travel documents removed so they could not escape
Miami-Dade prosecutor Brenda Mezick told the judge that the
men lived through "absolute terror" and were not allowed to have their
travel documents to escape.
A victim statement read to the court said: "I was under their control, all day, all night.
“They used me like I was a machine. They sold me to strangers. I was not allowed to be tired. I was not allowed to be sad.”
Although
a move in August 2012 to Miami was meant to signal an end to the
prostitution, the men were soon in a similar situation.
The maximum penalty for Vass' crimes
could have been up to 155 years in prison, but defence lawyer Adam
Goodman said that before taking his role in the ring, he was a victim
himself at the hand of the other man and was forced to marry one.
Vass
said: “I know very well that I am culpable. After I do my time, I would
like to start a new clean life and I’m asking for God’s help and I pray
every day for forgiveness.”
