Miss Germany apologises after sparking outrage by slamming Miss Universe winner
Miss Germany Sarah-Lorraine Riek has apologised after she slammed the Miss Universe winner - Miss Philippines - claiming no-one voted for her.
Host Steve Harvey managed to mess up the announcement of the winner leading Runner-Up Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutiérrez-Arévalo to be crowned winner in front of millions of viewers by mistake.
After realising his massive blunder, Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach
was then revealed as the correct winner during the ceremony in Las
Vegas, with Ariandna being forced to hand over her crown.
Just
days later, Miss Germany Sarah-Lorraine, who came unplaced in the
competition, admitted that she wasn't happy with the result.
“I really couldn’t believe it, I was so upset. For me Miss France as
the real winner,” she said in an interview uploaded to Facebook page
Missosology.
“I was very happy for Miss Colombia because she
really deserved it. I’m really not happy with the result and so are the
other girls, I’m sorry to say it,” she added.
“Because no one of us voted for Philippines. I’m so sorry to say it.”
Now
she has reportedly apologised for her comments, with the Miss Universe
Germany team issuing a statement on their official Facebook page -
shortly before the entire page was pulled down.
Miss Germany 'apologises'
According
to reports, the post read: "Miss Universe-Germany Sarah-Lorraine feels
sorry for her colleague and friend Miss Colombia. This must have been
the worst nightmare. She never intended to offend Miss Philippines in
any way. She feels sorry for both girls."
"She is really sorry if the video suggests anything else than that," it added.
"Sarah-Lorraine is very happy a half-German girl brings the crown of course a bit to Germany as well!" the statement went on.
The two contestants involved in Sunday night's embarrassing mix up have since spoken out.

surprisingly upbeat and insisted moments after the fiasco that she
wasn't annoyed.

“Thank you for voting for me.”
The real winner, Pia Wurtzbach admitted it had been a "very non-traditional crowning moment".
